The Roots of My Mother:

[Reformatted & edited by Naomi-Natalie Brown]

You are the one,

to whom I bared my soul.

The one to whom I cried.

You are the only one who knows my fears.

To you, I relinquish all my pride.

Never have I felt a warmth gentler than your arms,

my heart a simple instrument played by all your charms.

Your delicate tones and caring words, linger in my mind.

My small hand within your tender grip tightly intertwined.

No words that pass these feeble lips could ascertain

the way your modest choruses soothe disorder within my brain.

My eyes meet yours with adoration, fit only for a queen.

From the deepest of my soul, the world to me you mean.

No text or ink on paper could ever truly mark

the pedestal I’ve put you on here, within my heart.

If I spoke to you these words out loud, perhaps they would sound foolish,

but when it comes to speaking truths who am I to be prudish?

You have bathed me, changed me, named me and helped form all my ethics.

The love we share is infinite, more than just genetics.

So, I sing to you my sweet angel, as proud as I can sing…

You are and

will forever

be

the

most

perfect

human being

and mother to me.
